Growing Deeper Counselling

Trees begin in relationship. Earth, sun, air, and rain provide nutrients for trees to grow and live. Plus hidden, underground relationships provide support for mutually beneficial growth and development (Underground Networking: The Amazing Connections Beneath Your Feet - National Forest Foundation (nationalforests.org). In a similar way, counselling begins in relationship. A cooperative, collaborative conversation between the client(s) and counsellor becomes a source of relational support and a place to create and explore new pathways for growth and development.

"Before our minds can create the world, the world creates our minds. We then generate our world from the mind the world instilled in us before we had any choice in the matter." Dr. Gabor Maté The Myth of Normal. A key part of the conversational journey at Growing Deeper is understanding the voices that have shaped our patterns of thinking and feeling, then creating new patterns by opening ourselves up to new voices from within and without.

Sam Drew – Certified Clinical Counsellor (CCC), Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)

Sam truly enjoys counselling. It is an amazing privilege to walk with others into the difficult areas of their hearts and lives. As a counsellor, Sam seeks to be caring, empathetic, and, when appropriate, challenging. He is a curious, compassionate listener. And he is skilled in encouraging collaborative dialog, leading to new possibilities for thinking, feeling, and doing.

Sam has always had a passion for helping others grow. His vocational journey has led through a few different careers, exploring ways to live out that passion. He has served as a Christian pastor, a spiritual director, a teacher of spiritual formation, and a counsellor for youth at risk. Plus, he has maintained a career in information technology for many years.

Sam has had training in individual, group, and couples and family counselling. He graduated from St. Stephen’s college in 2023, with a Master of Psychotherapy and Spirituality, plus 2 years (over 1500 hours) of counselling experience.
